Good luck in your new job messages

Pick your group, use their name, and sign.

From a teammate

  • Good luck in the new role. You made this team better and we will notice you are gone.

  • Congratulations on the new job. Whoever hired you got a good deal.

  • You kept this place sane for a long time. Good luck, and take care of yourself.

  • Good luck. Come back and tell us what it is like to work somewhere normal.

  • Wishing you all the best in the new job.

Funny

  • Good luck. Try not to be too good immediately, it sets awkward expectations.

  • Congratulations on the new job. Out of interest, what did they offer you.

Short

  • Good luck. We will miss you.

  • Congratulations on the new job.

  • All the best in the new role.

What to leave out

Do not make it about the team losing them. They are moving on to something good, so lead with that and leave your own inconvenience out of it entirely.

Skip hoping they come back. It is their leaving card, not a recruitment pitch.

Do not mention their salary, their notice period, or anything about why they are leaving. None of it.

Do not write a list of inside jokes that only two of you will understand. The card is from everyone.

One card from the whole team

Everyone signs before their last day. One link, and it opens on their first morning.

  1. 01

    Set their start date.

The card opens that morning, not before. They read it before anyone at the new place knows their name.

  2. 02

Send the link round the team.

Each person signs once, in a browser, no account needed.

  3. 03

They read it on day one.

Every message comes signed. Better than a card on the desk they had to leave behind.

Questions

What do you write in a good luck new job card?

Name the job they are heading to, say one specific thing you valued about them, and wish them well. Vague good wishes feel like a form letter.

Should a good luck card be funny or sincere?

Either works if it fits the person. Funny messages land better from people who know them well. The whole team signing means a mix of both is fine.

When should the card be sent for a new job?

Before their last day in the office, so they leave with it. On tbf work you can set it to open on their first morning at the new place instead.

Somebody has a day coming up.
