Employee appreciation ideas

Five ways to recognise the work.

Choose the person and the reason before choosing a gift. Recognition works differently for a private person, a busy team and colleagues who rarely meet.

  1. 01

    A card from close colleagues

Collect messages from the people who worked with the recipient. Let each writer decide what to say, rather than sending the same praise under everyone’s names.

  2. 02

A meal with the work covered

Choose a time the team can attend and arrange cover. Offer a suitable alternative for colleagues who cannot join, instead of letting them miss the thanks.

  3. 03

    Time to learn something

Ask what training or professional event the person wants. Agree the budget and time away from work, then keep that decision separate from performance assessment.

  4. 04

    A useful gift they choose

Ask about preferences and company rules before buying. A shared collection or gift is optional; colleagues can add words without being expected to contribute money.

  5. 05

Recognition at the end of a project

Give the handover and support teams a place in the thank you. Choose one recipient or team for each card so the writing has a clear purpose.

The organiser’s list

Choose the occasion.

Set a budget, an organiser and a delivery date. A small team can start with one card; recurring company occasions can use a company plan.

  • Name the contribution you want to recognise.
  • Ask about private or public delivery.
  • Include remote and shift colleagues.
  • Keep gifts and writing voluntary.
  • Read the sample before creating the card.

AI safety checks

People write.
AI checks.

The check looks for threats, abuse, sexual content, spam and exposed private details. Flagged notes are kept off the card for a person to review.

How the checks work ↗
01

Your own words

AI does not write, complete or rewrite a colleague’s message.

02

A person can correct it

Company cards have a spam folder for managers and admins. On a card bought without an account, the creator reviews set aside notes through their manage link.

03

The limits are clear

AI can miss a note or flag one wrongly. If the check is unavailable, writing still works.

04

Check the data policy

Notes are sent to TypeSafe for the check. Names and card access codes are left out of that request.

From an occasion to a card

Give them
everyone’s words.

  1. 01

    Create the card

Pick a cover, name the recipient and choose when it opens. You can buy one card without a company account.

  2. 02

    Share the writing link

Colleagues contribute in a browser. Each person writes and signs their own message.

  3. 03

They open it on the day

The messages arrive together in one card. The recipient reads it on their phone.

For repeated birthdays, work anniversaries, welcomes and leaving days, use a company account with Slack and BambooHR.

Questions

What can we do on a small budget?

A signed card, a thank you from a manager or time for a team meal can all be considered. Pick something the recipient wants rather than buying matching gifts by default.

Is this only for Employee Appreciation Day?

No. These ideas fit project endings, busy seasons and ordinary contributions. The separate Employee Appreciation Day guide covers the annual date.

Can we start without a company account?

Yes. Buy one card through the card shop. Company plans cover regular workplace occasions.
